Won't start Laura 6-13-07
I have a 2001 Infiniti QX4 and recently I've been having the problem of it not starting after the engine is hot. The engine rotates but wont turn. When it cools down after 45 min-1 hr, then it starts with no problem. I've also had the check engine light on for quite a while with a P0420 OBD-II code (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) but I'm not sure that this is related to the problem of not starting when the engine is hot. I've also noticed that after driving on the highway, when i release the gas, the RPM fluctuates up and down for a short while then slowly drops off to normal. Is this related??

I do not know if the newer autos can have problems with vapor lock or not but make sure any heat shields are reinstalled when removed. My son (not mechanically inclined) had the same problem with an older Subabru he was driving and it turned out to be he was low on oil and the engine was overheating. Check all your fluid levels and watch your temperature. If all else fails then fix what the engine check code indicates and see if a new check code appears. keep repairing until no codes are returned. (Autozone will usually be able to check the codes for free).
