My 1992 Thor Pinnacle with P-30 and throttle body fuel injection looses some power and backfires in the intake when using the last part of the throttle range. It has 24,000 miles total on it. The engine seems to bog some when pulling hills and advancing the throttle past about 2/3. At wide open throttle the engine wil occationally backfire through the intake. The engine seems to make more power if I back off the throttle to a point. Past this point it seems to bog. It sounds to me like it is running lean. There is no black smoke. Does anyone have any suggestions?

First off--change the fuel filter--it's on the right side frame rail-should be a can looking filter-takes 2 wrenches to break it loose- possibly fram G3727 delco-GF 481 or GF 626 DO NOT loose the 2 o-rings-from the line fittings--

Yes change the filter first. If thats no help check if you may have some older winter gas in the tank and now its geting hotter. Some mountain gas has lower octane if you may have got gas last summer in the mountains. Also at about that mileage those 454s start to see the spark plug wires go bad.Bad wires will cause some backfire usually under load. Also you might have fuel pressure checked.Don't do anything till you change fuel filter.Good Luck Mike

Wow, I changed the fuel filter and the problem is entirely gone. More power, smoother, and no backfires. I couldn't even blow through the old filter, and the new filter was very free flowing. Thanks Richard and Mike E.
