Moterhome overheating Dave 5-25-06
I have a 1984 pace arrow with a 454. It will overheat when travling down the road. I have changed the clutch fan, thermostat, temp gauge, had the radiator cleaned and preassure tested. I checked the upper &lower hoses for blockage. When the engine is running the hoses on the waterpump are hard so it seems like the waterpump is working. Also when it gets hot i have no water loss. HELP

With engine cold, fill the radiator to the top of filling neck, don't install the cap, start the engine & watch the coolant for air bubbling or coolant over flowing out. If bubbling, need to take a combustion test to confirm head gasket leak.

Might need more info,Does it get hot when driving up to speed or just setting at idle. You may have a timing issue or a EGR valve problem.Check timing first easy test, plug vacuum line to Dist.when checking timing. An quick test for egr function is to rev up a warm engine and feel the diaphram at back side of egr,see if you can feel it move in.If that works ok,with engine at idle push in on diaphram and see if motor slows or gets rough if it slows or gets rough it working. Also check weights inside Dist.may be rusted and sticking causing no advance.Just a few ideas you can easly check.Good Luck Mike

In my 84 pace arrow---the heater s both-front and rear.
antifreeze "must " flow or the engine will overheat the circuit might be stopping up---just enough to cause overheating as well.
can you hear the fan cut in when it starts to heat up---i mean the clutch one-should give you a "roar"
and does yours have electric fans---some did.normally they work when the AC is turned on.

Trans bands slippage can cause overheating....Fan shroud in place ???
Brakes dragging ??
Re: moterhome overheating Dave 5-30-06
Thanks for all the info, but i found my problem. The smog pump locked up on me so i bypassed it. The new way that i routed the belts was not grabbing the water pump good enough. At an idle was good, but under a load it must of been slipping. I did not see the problem untill i got the radiator out. I changed the smog pump, water pump (because i was already in there). Put on new belts and it cools great. Thanks for all the info

Dave I am also replacing everything in front of the engine because being a 1992 with 93K miles I hope I never see that two foot of space again. :)
