I am running a 454 chevy in my 1992 fleetwood bounder.Last year i was climbing some hills and it started to get hot, could i run truck without thermostat and what weight oil should i run?.
Re: 454 chevy bounder Ron 5-24-06
Absolutely not! Find out what is causing heat build-up; ie. clogged radiator core, stretched /worn timing chain.... any number of things. Most likely you have a marginal cooling system. Oil? Now that it's warm in most places, 20/50 is my preference, but check you chassis manual for specifics.

Hi DO NOT REMOVE thermostat unless you replace it,with out one there, the water flow will increase and pump to fast and loose some cooling.I have the same year 28T 65,000 miles, they all run warm 210 normal temp,I am removing rad.installing new chain and gears also new 4 core rad, new water pump also moving oil filter( it is to close to exhaust ).I use full syn. oil 10w-40 still get 8 to 11 miles per gal except hills this engine can burn 27 gal. per hr at full load full feed to the floor. have fun regards Larry ps clean trans cooler and air fins
