FUEL PUMPS-FORD 460 JM KEARNEY 5-18-06
1991 Motor Home--Pace Arrow 35 foot.
Having on-going problems with in-tank fuel pump. Unit has only ONE PUMP which is located in the tank about 24 foot from the engine. Will the installation of a additional IN-LINE fuel pump help in solving fuel flow?
If I install a unit that has the capability of 10 tp 17 PSI be sufficent?
When pump is mal-functioning, cockpit noise is SO LOUD that the drivers cannot hear. Will proper fuel pressure eliminate this problem?
Previous owner at 53,000 miles replaced 460 engine after replacing in-tank pump and catalytic converter at 50,000 miles in an attempt to resolve problems. New engine has less than 2,000 miles today.
Any advice?

Where is the noise coming from the pump area or under the chassis.Need to run some fuel pressurs test. Not sure if 17lbs will be enough. You may have a pinched return line. Need more info?? Not sure if it is port injection but may need about 39 lbs pressure.Has the fuel pressure regulator been checked.

When mine did the same thing, I took the old pump out of the tank and put a spacer tube/hose in place where the pump was remooved and installed a new electric pump outside the tank on the frame and I had no more issues with my gas flow....... My new pump would not flow gas until I removed the old pump from the tank and installed the spacer hose......
