Want to convert my 1993 rv ford 460 to propane Bobby Conley 5-13-06
Ok. you guys are going to think I'm nuts. I have done a lot of reading on engine conversion to propane and I want to convert my 1993 RV Ford 460 Engine to propane. Would like to know what parts I need and where I can get them to convert and how to do it. I also understand now that it's possible to have conversion to be either gas or propane by switching method. I would appreciate your knowledge on this.

Hi Bobby, Run a search on either Propane Carburetors or Propane Conversions, you'll get a lot of companies to look at. The biggest pain is placing the tanks. As far as switching fuels, I don't know anyone that has used a switching system. Although there are supposed to be some available. Power wise seems to be about the same. Cost for fuel per mile is usually a little higher(in most of the USA). Sometimes it's hard to find in some areas. It's available, but it's not at most gas stations and a lot of the propane dealers don't have Sunday hours. A lot of truck stops handle it for reefers if you run interstates. Your engine should last longer, and the oil doesn't break down as quick, on the average. As far as I know, NO states require any emission control equiptment on propane only engines. Rich

I am doing the same thing to my 1991 RV with a Ford 460 let me know how its working for you. My plan is to fill the tanks from my 500 gal propane tank at home. Bulk propane is well under $2 a gal and should help moving that beast around greatly.

Has anyone had any luck converting their RV to propane? I have a 1986 RV w/ a Ford 460 engine that I'm also looking into converting to propane. I live near Salt Lake City but it's been somewhat of a struggle to locate businesses that will do this or find a do-it-yourself kit. I have a couple of feelers I'm hoping to hear back on today so I will let you know what I find out.
