Need advice: 1990 Bounder with 454 TBI and fuel delivery problem Dean 4-18-06
My 1990 Bounder with 454 TBI has fuel delivery issue and will not go over 25 MPH. I replaced the Fuel filter, and thorough tune up but no change. Under the RV I found a disconnected electric Aux. fuel pump and reconnected it. Test drove. RV now had plenty of power, but upon decelleration, backfired, blew black smoke from tailpipe, and at idle, gas leaked out of the TBI onto the top of the engine. Aux pump is now disconnected again. Any ideas?
Should I try dropping the tank and replace the in-tank pump and strainer and not use the Aux.pump? Do I need an aux fuel pump? Is there a gas pressure regulator somewhere? (I can't find it)
Any thoughts and ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Get an el cheapo fuel pressure tester at your local auto parts store, and check your pressure. chances are you have a bad pump. try disconnecting main pump and use aux. the black smoke and backfire were most likely due to overloading w/fuel from both pumps. hope this helps
