Check engine light ade solano 3-30-06
Hi, I would like to know about this code P1443 (Evaporative Emission Control System valve) of 1996 Ford Ranger, 2-wheel drive, V6 4.0..... What and where should I look for in the engine to correct this problem ?.
Thanks.

Ade solano,
first of all I gotta give credit where credit is due as what I am gonna post was written by rick in 2003 when I got this code on my 97 ford t-bird. Luckily I printed it and kept it all this time. It's embarassing but just right now I got around to messing with it and fixing this minor repair. For a weekend warrior I would rate this job a 5 out of 10. The hard part on the t-bird was getting to the charcoal canister after that it was easy.

as written by rick in 2003, "p1443 code on 97 ranger the evaporative emissions control valve..... find your charcoal canister. If you've never heard of such a thing consult a chilton manual or any other car repair manual for the 97 ford ranger to find the location. After finding the charcoal cannister, follw the hose towards the intake manifold...first piece of equipment is the valve next in line is the sensor. the valve is a solenoid plunger type valve that can gum up causing it to stick.... remove it from the vehicle and clean it with some carbe cleaner. If possible jumper 12 volts across the 2 pin connectors to excercise the valve...

While doing this repair replace the vacuum hoses as mine were pretty bad. A friend of mine was able to apply a 12 voltage to the valve and you can hear it working which meant that it was good. Saved me about $70 which is how much the valve was going to cost at the dealership. Ended up replacing the sensor instead which cost about $25. It's going on two weeks now and the code has not came back. The check engine light is still on but for another code. O2 sensor replacemets.

Hope this helps. questions e-mail me.

Knock sensor module gordon 5-15-06
Had tune up done/light came on/they said I needed O2 sensors(3)/catalynic convertor(replaced)3 fuel pumps went bad/1 was defective/drove it as is then parked it, starting from time to time. It started then stalled with what appeared like vapor lock. Took to chev dealer he replaced ignition control module(runs good) but the light is still on/had it inspected and the reading came up KNOCK SENSOR // REPLACED...is there a control module for that or do you have any other suggestions...STUMPPED HERE???
