1995 Flair Ford 460 Fred 8-12-03
I was wondering what if anyone had an idea on what a tune-up for a '95 Fleetwood Flair 30' would cost. I am getting one done, (first time doing so since I purchased 5 months ago with 33800miles) also an oil change and the mechanic said I needed wires because they test drove it and said it was missing a bit. I have not felt any missing since I've owned it. any info is appreciated.
thanks

Fred before you act make sure yuour dealing with a reputable shop and someone you trust. You can do one of two things. Either get your own parts and then pay the labor for the job or have the mechanic obtain the parts and pay for both parts and labor. Some, not all shops will obtain the parts and then mark them up to increase their profit margin. The labor is usually taken from a Flat Rate manual with specifies a certain amount of time based on each job being performed. How much the job will cost will depend on what is or has to be replaced. Such as plugs, cap, rotor, wires, belts, hoses, transmission service, radiator flush and fill etyc. How much depends on you. If you don't know of good shop, suggest you ask some o the two truck operators in you area who they recommend and ask for more than one and see who pops up the most. Or is you have a local police department talk to a couple of officers and see if they know of a good shop. They will usually refer you to the honest ones who are more help than hinder.

Wires are NEEDED due to AGE not miles in fact most of us would DO ouselfs some good to consider things BY AGE rather then by miles, I am not saying you were not doing so, BUT incase.. Anyway on to your Question... I just paid 2,600 DOLLARS for a Raditor, Water Pump, Fuel Pump (since they were right there I thought what the heck) and new fan clutch and houses and belts of course, oh and tranny service and I would have expected all that to be about 1200 bucks so your TUNE up might should If it is A FULL one, Fuel Filter, AIR Filetrs PCV etc.. and Wires, plugs, cap rotor, O2 sensor, I guess about 700-1200 ought to cover you are you having a TRANY Service? say its "confidentiality" what the heck is that, and why, and how or who do you have to be to do that. is it someone real important. or something??Might consider it, Also I recomend a TRANY Temp gauge at LEAST and in my case I just installed MYSelf (whole they had the tranny pan off I paid them to INSTALL the sender in the pan) I then bought a DRAIN Plug kit for the OIL temp sender and I also KNOW that KNOWING Vacume is a GREAT Way to MAXIMISE my fuel (some laugh here BY hey 1 MOG is alot when you only get 7 - 10 ) with Vac I am able to keep it out of the 2nd enrichment mode (Carbed not FI) Sorry about this book hgere I am in a TALKIVE mood, I FEEL Great!

recap: Est on what itis goingto cost you as a tune up, say from 700 to 1200 if it is a MAJOR and truly comrehensive.

Tell em, prove it. Say you want a Print out of everything is wrong. If they can't give you that, Run like the wind, to a place that can give you a print out, and don't be afraid to get a Second, or even a third Opinion, of that print out. Their are so many shysters out there these day's, you really have to look out for number 1.

Print out of what?
Re: 1995 Flair Ford 460 Gary CC NV 8-13-03
It's like when you go in for a Smog Check. A computer print out by a Diagnostic Computer, also available a real auto repair shops. They have been around since the mid 1970s. Not a Hand Held, like at Carson City Dodge, what a waste of $60.00.

Gary, Nevada has a Bureau of Consumer Protection, 1-800-326-5202, where you could register a complaint. Most states have enacted laws requiring that written estimates, if requested, be given, and no repairs outside the estimate be done without approval.
