Available F150 Engines John Denton 7-10-03
I was considering swapping a V8 into a 97 f150 xlt, but want to use an engine out of a similar year f150 (1990 & up). Does anybody know what years a normally aspirated 351 was offered in the F150, if any? I'd prefer the 351 as the 302 isnt much improvement over the 300 V6. Any info anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

We're getting pretty well restricted on swapping engines in vehicles. The 351 and 352 went the way of the Dodo bird. The 351 was never used in the truck, the 352 was, but got replaced with the 360, and if you wanted a bit more, you got the 390. Most states have some kind of smog laws, a lot of them have the ruling that emission equipment of a vehicle match the year chassis or the year engine, WHICHEVER IS NEWER, so they've got you there.

You will be better off to trade the vehicle for one that suits your needs. Your vehicle has to meet emission standards for which it was built. In addition to that, any engine changes would involve complete wiring change. The Fed's wouldn't be happy.

I don't live in a Smog County. The only time we get smog is when it blows over from that Polluted State California. But we do have a phone number, 686-SMOG, to call and report the Gross Polluters, like the junk ones that won't pass California Smog, because they smoke like a train, so they dump em here, that should be Illegal.
