My check engine light is on and stays on, Oil is fresh, PSI is ok, all Fluid levels are ok, any suggestions will be appreciated, will low brake pads do it?

Eric.
Re: check engine light 1996 ford ranger Sam Watson 6-28-03
Do this, disconnect the battery ground cable, wait 15 minutes and reconnect. Turn key to "on", but do not crank engine, note if light is on or off. Start engine, note if light is on or off. Take a drive---vehicle may drive a bit different at first---note if light is on or off. Come back with what you find.

I've seen commercials on TV from Kragens, Auto-Zone Checker, all owner by the same company, that offer Checking your "Check Engine Light" problem for free. Most of this stores sell Scan Tools for reading your cars Computer at reasonable prices.
Re: check engine light 1998 ford ranger annette 8-6-08
Left bank 2 is on scanner, repair shop has fixed repeadedly anything showing up and he is puzzled because of left bank 2. Light went off once for him, when we got it back it was back on again. Truck has had all other repairs that they felt i past months were other code problems. sensors, etc. made from dealership to this shop. This present shop, I know him and he is good but he is baffled having fixed everything else the scanner said needed fixing. It has been in shop five trips at least My truck runs real good and it has always been maintained perfectly. It's my husband's truck and he is so frustrated with this light problem....Help

Our check engine light does come on and stay on, but we have always maintained the truck at or above recommended levels.I don't think it has anything to do with the problem we are having. If you drive the truck to work or home and it sits for a few hours before you start it again, it is fine. If you try to drive several places, it will start, then die immediatly. Nothing will start it until it has sat for a few hours. The diagnostics test shows to trip the inertia switch, which we have done on several occasions. It still will not start until it has been sitting.

I have a 1996 ford ranger with the 2.3l 4 cylinder with the check engine light on. The code I have is P1443. I changed the fuel cap, the vacume hoses from manifold to canister and the thermister switch and still have the light come on after about 50 miles of driving and stays on.
Re: check engine light 1996 ford ranger Eathan 3-5-08
The check engine light will always be on its a ford i own a '97 for ranger 2wd with the 3L its been on since day one. it will never go off just egnore it. theres nothing wrong with the trucks. ive had mine looked at serveral times before i gave up and i did what the owners manual said to do by disconnecting the battery before any maintence that only works for a few starts then it turns back on. as long as your truck runs fine who cares about a light on the dash. AM I RIGHT OR WHAT?

Re: check engine light 1996 ford ranger Bob Anderson 2-9-06
I have a 2004 Ranger with the "engine light on" problem. Fixed it by following Sam Watson's 6-28-03 post exactly. I suspect I caused it a week prior when I added brake fluid without disconnecting the battery, as is directed in owner's manual.
Thanks to Sam and the rest of you.

Thanks.
Re: check engine light 1996 ford ranger Rod Godwin 9-13-06
I have a 96 Ranger 4x4 w/ a 2.3 four-banger.I have just solved my check engine light dilemma.I went to Autozone and had my codes read.It showed a bad O2 sensor in front of the catalytic converter and an EGR low flow detected code.I changed both and so far after 150 miles, the light has not come back on.
Re: check engine light 1996 ford ranger joe 8-30-07
Check engine light stays on but i also have found that when i crank it and the motor warms up, after i kill it and try to restart it, it wont crank. a slight smell like it has been flooded. 1996 ranger with a 2.3LT 4 cl someone has offered to give me a 2000 6cl ranger motor. does anyone know how these engines will interchange, if it will be an easy switch or if there is an easy fix to the problems i have without changing the engine.
