454 engine trouble Scott 6-23-03
ON a recent trip our engine developed a miss and i could feel the engine loose power under heavy thottle. When i eased up on the thottle the engine seems to pick up and the miss would go away. any ideas?

Check the fuel pump presure too.
Re: 454 engine trouble Bob 6-23-03
First check is plug wires, old spark plugs.. if older engine points.
Next could be fuel filter at carb unless throttle body.
Check both rear plug wires, gets mighty hot there

Had the same problems, Found out to be kined rubber hose from the regulator and a doubled folded sockin the fuel tank. Staving for fuel when I was going up hills or higher speeds on the highway 1989 winnabago

It sounds like a vapor lock problem to me. My 454 does this constantly, especially under a load and in great heat. Make sure air intake system to carb in functioning. That helped mine but still has not cured the problem. I replaced fuel pump with new and now I am looking at an auxilary fuel pump, carb spacer, and perhaps fuel line insulation.

My engine is not turning over. I think that it is the distibuter cap is out of sequence. What is the order in which they fire? It is a 1972' Chevelle SS. Can you help me? Thanks

I have an 87 454 TBI and it backfires out the intake only after warming up and under a load. someone told me it could be the EGR valve but have not had time to check it. the plugs, cap, rotor and wires are new. what to do you think?

Check the spark. Look for a strong blue spark. If it is orange and weak, you could have a weak coil.

Scott, I've been fighting the same problem also along with others. One RVer replaced his plugs wires with Ceramic ones...$70.0 from NAPA
and it's been running great for 4 years now they said.
