Oil Viscosity - 1989 Ford 460 Gary 5-19-03
I recently acquired a 1989 Tioga/Ford 460 with about 26K miles on it. Is 5W-30 oil OK?

5W-30, 10W-30, and 10W-40 oil all should be fine. With API of SJ.

API SE,SF,SG and SH are all obsolete.

Check this site for further information.

Gary: I would be concern about what type of engine has the 25 miles on it. Is it a factory rebuilt engine? Did a home mech do the overhaul without turning the crank? Finally, are you going to travel in dersert country with high hear or a lot of mountain climbing. 10W-40 would be a safer choice for the high heat, mountain travel, or for a crank that wasn't turn.

That's 25K miles, not 25.
