Engine miss/no spark Jeanne 3-3-03
Engine has been missing under load at times. friday left me stranded - no spark to start it. mechanic cleaned spark plugs and wires...checked out module which is fine and changed crank shaft sensor...does not know what caused it to restart...now it starts but still has a miss and i am concerned it may quit totally again...any ideas????????????????????? 1988 cutlass thanks a bunch everyone...
Re: engine miss/no spark JR 3-3-03
Before you spend any more money on the engine, get a compression check. If comps OK, have you had to add water to the coolant tank lately? If so, your problem is going to get expensive. If not, install new plug wires, NEW spark plugs, dist cap, and rotor. Some of the cheap plug wires sold today will fail if you try to remove them...even tho they're new. If you're going to keep the car, get AC Delco wires. Is the shaft in the dist loose? I assume you had a new crank sensor installed and set correctly? You don't state which engine is installed in your car??
You may have a leaking intake manifold gasket, bad fuel injector(s depending on engine). If you have really high milage on the car..you may wish to sell the car to some do-it-yourselfer...?

Have the crank shaft sensor rechecked you may of gotten a bad one or it is not lined up, at night spray water on the plug wires look for a spark jumping & listen for a ticking sound, change the fuel filter.
Good luck!

JR has good advice, but the first thing I would do is the wires. And definately go with GM wires. Look for an "AC Delco" parts store in your area. That could save you a few dollars. I am partial to Champion spark plugs, but there are others that are good out there. I would guess you have distributerless ignition so that eliminates some problems. you should tell us what engine you have.
