I have an MC9 which after driving or running for about 2 hours the overheating dash alarm and light comes on. For some reason the temperature is normal therefore getting a false alarm being very annoying. I've checked all the visable connectors to no avail. Just thought I'd ask for an opinion before I spend money at the Mechanics. Thank for your help.
MC9 has three sensors in the thermostat housings, these are where the two hoses go up to a combiner manifol then up to the radiators. two are alarm/shut down and the other powers the dash guage, there should also be a old style non electric guage at the back mounted on the roof of the engine comp.
To test the alarm "stats" or senders start engine and use a jumper to short wires to ground, alarm should come on. Yes you need a second person up front to check. once you have identified bolth the alarm stats replace them with dash light senders @ 212 F is my prefrence. this is probably the problem. less that $40. so far. if the problem persists figure out which has the guage sender, if the guage reads normall the other thermostat is probably sticking, guage high that side. if you are lucky the old non elec guage is in the other housing from the front guage and will show a wildly diferent temp. If so just do the engine coolant control thermostats.
Couple hundred if you do it your self.

Hi Joe, I new I could count on you for an answer. The coach I am refering to is a 1980 MCI, I have ordered a maintenance manual for it last week from California therefore it will probably take a while. In the mean time, would you happened to know where I could possibly find this censor on a MC9..thank you, Leo
Look on the water jackets. I'm not sure exactly where, but if you find the water jackets (there are two) just look for sending units and then unhook them one at a time until the alarm stops.
