Chevy 454 Jim 1-22-02
I recently experienced the hot starter/solenoid problem and found several solutions:
1. Solenoid Relocation (Kit)$30.00
2. Dealer heat shield $13.00
3. After marked heat shield $7.00
4. Asbestos wrap $30.00
5. Gold tone starter heat shield

For others with this problem, I want you to know we have many options. The starter & solenoid on my unit are easy to get to and have only two bolts holding them on the motor. Don't pay a fortune to have someone fix this problem for you. Jim...

You got it right...the other thing I found, was as soon as I shut down, I would bump starter..this kept solenoid from seating and the heat swelling and locking solenoid in place.
