There are comercialy available hightemp wires for your application. There are cloth boots to protect the boots and wires. All available from your local high perf shop or over the internet. Most parts stores can get them, you just have to get a parts guy willing to look. The only time I have seen trouble that sevre is when there was exsahst leaks between the manifold and heads. Cracked manifolds could do this also. To get real high temp wires expect to pay 5 to 10 times the cheap ones. Good Luck

My 86 itasca with a 454 has metal covers over the boots that plug into the spark plug, this might make it worse or better i dont know yet i havnt driven it a long distance yet, maybe this will help?

I purchased a set of ‘school bus” plug wires from NAPA recently for my 454 Winnebago. I believe they were manufactured by Champion. I have not installed the wires yet, but they appear indestructible 8.5 MM and hardened epoxy-like boots
