4l60-e stops working jim 3-3-08
I have a 95 chevy van with the 4l60-e, never had a problem with it.
the other day i started it in a parking lot put it in reverse then drive, i came down a slope and when i hit level ground the tranny quit working.
now if i shut it off then restart it will work for a minute then stop.

start it, put it in drive, brake, slight throttle, it works then slacks off until theres nothing, shut it off, restart, same thing.
any help would be appreciated
Re: 4l60-e stops working BUBBA THE BUS TECH 3-4-08
No good news, It has probably plugged the filter causing the hydraulic pressure to fall of thus loosing all drive. The filter gets plugged by debries from clutches and failed hard parts (gears, bushing, etc). when the truckis shut off the oil flow stopps and the junk falls off the filter. when you start up the filter can allow oil to go through untill the moving oil carries enough junk back up and plugs it. Then you quit moving. It has probably been on verge of doing this for a while and it just plugged enough and tor a clutch out completly. It needs a trip to the repair shop and brace your self for a big bill. If they try to sell you a flush or oil change they aren't who you want working on your unit. The 700 series tranies (4L60E) don't do this and survive long. Sorry and good luck
