Higher end speed Josh 8-31-07
I have a 1954 GMC 4104 bus that is converted, is there anyway to upgrade the transmission or the differential to get a higher top end speed?
Re: higher end speed BUBBA THE BUS TECH 8-31-07
There was a couple ratios available for this diff. Get the diff # and ask a heavy duty gear shop. I have messed with gear ratios on heavy units and found that lowering engine rpm in these just caused them to suck wind and perform poorly under normall highway conditions. The performance loss is amaising.
Re: higher end speed richard knouse 9-1-07
THERE WERE TWO SPEED DIFF. AVAILABLE THAT WOULD FIT. YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE WHOLE DIFF., HOUSING AND ALL.NOT SURE IF THERE WERE ANY ELECTRIC UNITS BUT KNOW THERE WERE VACUUM SHIFTED UNITS. TALK TO A TRUCK REPAIR SHOP THAT'S BEEN AROUND AWHILE. THEY CAN PROB. TELL YOU WHAT IS PRACTICAL TO PUT IN. THERE MAY BE SOMETHING NEWER THAT WILL FIT. RICH
