I had a similar problem on a trip towing a car trailer. However, the next day, everything shifted more or less fine. 36-foot RV with 49,000 miles on it.

Oil looked ok, but decided to get the pan dropped, filter changed and flush before replacing the tranny.

Found nothing in the pan that indicated serious problems, but filter was definately dirty and stopped up. After the flush, definate improvement in shifting, but hardly any reverse!

Suspected dirt was the problem now migrated into the reverse valving, so I drove it about 750 miles and gradually reverse returned. Trips where in short segments to start, maybe 100 or so and each time, reverse improved so that was encouraging. What was the worse that could happen? This weekend, it will get a second pan drop, filter and flush. I'm hoping this will take care of it and expect that it will. Cost $150 per flush, so total $300. Far better than $2,800
