Loss of power/Hi trans temp Kevin Mulvehill 8-20-01
I have a '93 Winnebago Brave 27'w/P-30 chassis, 454 TBI and 4L80E trans. I have recently put Thorley headers, hi-flow converter, Gibson muffler, Hyper performance chip, Mag-Hytec trans pan w/ temp gauge, 28,000 GVW trans cooler & K&N air filter. I experience intermittently surging when pulling grades w/boat(4000 lbs) w/ trans temps of 250+, and coolant temps of approx. 210 degrees. I have no check engine light so I am not sure if I have a trans problem, fuel pressure problem, or engine computer problem. I have changed fuel filter & am at a loss at where to go now. Any suggestions are welcome or if anyone else has had this problem & has resolved this problem please contact me. Thanks

Your performance computer may have changed the shiftpoints of your transmission, being that everything is electronically controlled. Also, your torque converter may not be locking (or fully locking) because of this. Contact the manufacturer of the computer and see if there's any additional programming or adjusting you may need to do... otherwise, put the old computer back in and try it out. If the problem goes away, then you know what it is...

Sorry, I will try again.
1992 PaceArrow 454 Chev with similar problem pulling Jeep. All stock with 20k miles. Replaced fan clutch (std chev?), thermostat, and checked cat converter. Added Trans cooler, guage and Jacobs Electronic unit. Engine runs 190 to 210 on level and 240 - 260 going up hill. Trans runs 160 to 200 on level and 250 + going uphill. Lots of variance in temp and starts to surge at times when hot. I hear rumors about bad horizontal 2 core side tank radiators on those years. Please advise if you find a solution to your problem.
