1996 GMC 4L60-E PLEASE HELP Jaime Ledford 5-16-06  
I HAVE A 1996 GMC 1500 4X4 PICKUP, THE AUTOMATIC SHIFTS THROUGH ALL THE GEARS GREAT,BUT WHEN IT IS IN OVERDRIVE, IT SOMETIMES STARTS JEARKING LIKE IT IS'T FULLY IN GEAR, YOU CAN LET OFF THE GAS A LITTLE, OR GIVE IT MORE GAS AND IT QUITS, IT IS LIKE A CERTAIN PLACE YOU HAVE THE THROTTLE WHEN IT IS IN OVERDRIVE IT DOES IT. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME, OR COULD MY PROBLEM ALSO BE THE TPS.

It sounds like your tranmission's lock up torque converter is going bad. It may be in the electronics since the converter gets a signal from the computer when the speed reaches the right point. If the speed at which your jerking starts is in the 40-50 range I'd bet on it. Next time it does it try to hold the speed steady and quickly downshift out of overdrive and then shift back up and see if it stops.

It sounds dumb but if you have a Distributor check the cap and rotor. Mine was doing the same thing. Bucking under a slight load. Let off the gas and its fine, accelerate and its fine. Wierd
