6,5 diesel trans 4l80e limp mode sick of 6.5 2-9-06
Well, im trying to figure out my tranny problem. my 94 6.5 drives fine, then out of the blue it goes to a limp mode. I can most of the time just put the truck in neutral shut it off start it up again and put it in drive and im good, but lately i have to pull over and disconnect the batteries then re connect to have it work fine for a short time, another thing is the tranny at random times will shift from first to second so hard it will scratch the tires.( no shift kit) i have been racking my brain trying to figure it out. my touble codes read 33,68, 74, 85, 87. on the reset computer after driven 200 miles. i have changed the pmd and the 1,2 cnd 3,4 shift selinoid (sorry for the spelling its late)just need to fix it or get rid of it any help would be very nice THANX IN ADVANCE

That sounds like mine. I have yet to get it out of Limp Mode. I've disconnected battery w/ no help. I have a 95 P-30 w/ 6.5. I'm ready to take it in to the shop. Any idea how to get codes from a 95 step Van?

I don't know that my problem is the same as yours. my 97 6.5 Suburban was going into limp mode from O/D back into 3rd and staying there after a hill or heavy load. I'd stop, shut it down and restart after 30 seconds and it would be fine for a while. After checking this and that, I found the water temp sensor wiring harness on top and between the rad and intake manifold, had shed its' heat protection, was rubbing and shorting out on the intake manifold. A little elctrical tape and heat shield and she's been cruising ever since...... I hope this helps. This probably isn't the solution you're looking for but it may show a different direction is needed... Track your wiring, and look for shorts from rubbing. It worked for me... Good luck!
