I start my truck it runs for a few seconds and dies. but i CAN start it back up and does the same thing. i was told it was a fuel filter but i put a new one in. i put a new fuel sending unit in the tank. some one told me it might be the ignition controle moduel but it starts so i dont have the faintest please help
As already stated, this could be an injector problem but is not limited to it.
A few various things that I know for fact will do your truck the EXACT same way are as follows...
Your ignition module can very well do this to your truck even if it will start-up.
Your throttle position sensor mounted on the side of your throttle-body may be bad...Autozone DOES have a code tester if you bring this part in and will check it for free.
Your Mass air flow sensor(MAF)may be bad...Is your check engine light on when you start the truck? This is located on your air-intake near the box end. Autozone will test it.
Your fuel pressure regulator, OR your fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose could be bad. This is located on your lower intake, front passenger side roughly behind the thermostat housing. It has two bolts holding it in place, and a hose running to it. Unplug the hose and clamp it off. Try to start it. Remove the FPR and check for cleanliness/cracks. Replace if nesseccary.
All Vacuum hoses attached to the plenum need to be checked. Do you hear a sudden hiss of air when the truck dies? Check them for cracks, seal, proper locationing (Refer to Haynes if you don't know where they all go specifically) Even check the one that goes from rubber into metal, and runs to your transmission valve body. That one can cause it to die.
Plugs/wires. Do any plug wires look melted from touching manifolds? Check gap of spark plugs. They should measure.052-.056 and be ACDelco, Autolite or NGK (I reccomend either especially NGK, just never Platinum Bosch suck in Ford V6's trust me).
Your coil pack...good contact at wire caps? Good ground/snug bolts? Should be one bolt to your exhaust manifold 15mm and two on the side of the plenum either 9/16 or 1/2 and be snug. On the frame of the coil pack there is a small wire with about a 4mm bolt holding it on acting as a ground. Is it snug? Is the wire broke? Is the plug that the little wire runs to plugged in? Is the coil-pack plug attached to the side of it?
Are your fuel lines crimped anywhere? Trace them with your eye and fingers too.
Are the two electric plugs to the driver side of the plenum plugged in? Do they look in good health?
Are you POSITIVE your firing order is correct?
These are a few of my offering for you to troubleshoot if you haven't already solved your problem...

My truck has begun to violently jolts whenever I slwo down to stop. I am thinking u joint but then it seems like it may be something to do with the breaks. Does not do it all the time though.
It might be a clog in your fuel injecters, try puting some fuel injecter cleaner in your tank right after a fill up. you can pick some up your local auto parts store. if that does not work try puting octane booster in your tank after a fill up. it might burn something into working right. this may not be the best solution use it only if the injecter cleaner failed.

Concerning the 1993 Ranger with an antifreeze smell, if you do not smell it inside the truck, it might be head gaskets. My '94 4.0 seeps coolant at the head gaskets. I never see droppings, indicative of a leak. But on a lift, you can see tracings leading down from the head gaskets. No doubt the smell is most noticeable after a good run. You might try ONE can of a quality stop leak product - no more than one. I did, and it helped... some. But it did not cure it. However, the leak is not considerable, so I made a bracket for installation under the hood, and I keep a bottle of 50/50 under the hood. I probably add a pint in 650 miles. This is very tolerable. Meanwhile, the truck, with 90,000+ miles on it run great, and I enjoy it. I'll just keep driving it the way it is. Good luck.
You know I had that problem my truck would run but than it would die at about 2500 rpm... i popped the hood didnt see jack wrong than noticed one of the hoses going to the air intake was loose.. popped that baby back in and it was all good.
I HAVE A FORD RANGER WHEN YOU STAR IT IT RUN BUT CUT OFF YOU HAVE LET IT RUN 10MNS BEFOR YOU CAN MOVE IF NOT IT CUT OFF. IF YOU LET IT RUN 10MNS IT WILL STAY RUNNIG CAN YOU HELP ME WITH THIS PLZ THANKS
My 93 ranger 4.0 burns the coil pack on the back 2 sockets. it also burned the alternator,i checked all grounds and replaced the plugs and wires,it all started when i drove on a rough road,the ignition module was my next choice i don't know where it's located
