Recommended Transmission Jay Rom 11-25-05
What transmission would you recommend for hauling a 5th wheel trailer (18,000lbs). I am using a 5.9 Cummings Deisel 1996 3500 Dodge truck. I am having trouble with the stock transmission overheating and I burned up the trans once.

Have you considered an Allison 5 speed automatic? They are great, not too expensive, and very rugged and dependable. they will last longer, and be gentler on your vehicle than a regular manual tranny. I probably have one, only question is will it bolt up.

have a good one
