93 chevrolet suburban k2500 454. lost reverse and fluid was dirty so put fresh fluid in ran for a few minutes still no reverse so pulled pan again and oil was dirty so thought it might be the valve body clogged so took it out and cleaned it,replaced gasket and install it now when put into reverse it goes forward and when in neutral it goes foward all the check balls were installed right. any ideas

Take ur pan off and check the reverse piston.

How would I know if reverse piston is working properly and if not can it be preplaced?
