4L80E wiring disconnected - help please!! by Swampdog
Post New Message I have a 1995 GMC 2500 4x4 454 with a 4L80E. It had a bunch of mud built up around the transmission and transfer case, which I have tried cleaning off.

On the drivers side of the transmission, there are two wiring plugs. One is larger and has maybe 8 or 10 wires. The second one is a small plug (about 1/2" x 1/4") with two wires going into the back of it. That second plug is not connected - it's just hanging there beside the transmission. Since it's muddy, I don't think it has been connected for a while.

What is that plug for, and what does it do? Where does it connect to? Since things are dirty under there and the space is tight, I can't see much.

The transmission seems to work fine, although I can't remember if it has a passing gear. (I never use passing gear as I only use this truck to pull a '28 foot trailer and haven't driven it since pulling the trailer last summer.)

The vent tube was also plugged with mud, which I cleaned out. I wonder if that caused it to use a little oil?? It used a quart every few thousand miles.

Thanks for your help!!
