I need to replace my transmission on this 1972 GMC Bus 35ft. Fishbowl in Nashville, TN = anyone have any ideas who can do this for me at a resonable price - I have stripped my reverse gear and it wont go backwords anymore - just grinds - will go forward but im afraid to move it because I don't want to get metal shavings in the transmission - So I need another transmission and someone who can do it for a resonable price - I found one guy who gets $100 an hour and told me it would take him 12 hours to do it or $1,200 plus the cost of the transmission - wow thats alot of money - for this old bus - any idea's?

Try this link for coach manuals. They also have engine and tranny manuals, but you need to know which engine/tranny you have.

It's me again - oh I forgot to say that if someone would like to buy this great old bus - I can send you pictures - make me an offer - it drives forward fine - will need batteries to start it and maybe a tune-up - I have been notified of someone who has a transmission for $300 who lives in baton rouge, louisiana if your interested.
Re: Allison VH-9 Transmisson lou 7-21-06
I don't think you striped your reverse
gear sounds like your selonid or valve control body. there are test you can do to pinpoint the problem.i have a 68 fishbowl with vh2 and i know where you can get every part new for your tranny.
these trannys are made to be rebuilt. if it is in fact your reverse gear it is an easy fix.these trannys are just big torque convertors w direct drive clutches.give me a call in conn. 203 879-1912 you do need to get a manual
i can help Lou

We have a T6H4521 camperized bus. Actually its my neighbors kids that have it and are using it on an across USA filming tour. Check out "The Buried Life" on the net to see the big purple bus.
Anyway we are having some difficulty with the transmission slipping, it can't get up any sort of hill. A few aother problems but this is the biggy right now. Any thoughts on where we can get a maintenance and/or repair manual? Any adice and help would be most appreciated.
Thanks Steve.
