On rear axle brake chambers with park brake, If the brake chamber rod is too long the slack adjuster will go past 90 degrees when the service brake is applied. Does this meet out of service criteria?

Forgive me if I sound condescending, but isn't the reason why the brake rod is threaded is so that you can shorten up the length of the brake rod?

In answer to your question, yes I think it would be an out-of-service condition.

Thanks for the money, I have to go now as I am composing a letter to send to the tooth fairy next.
Ps, I have this bridge in NY city that is for sale...

Let's go back to the brakes OK? The reason the slack adjust of the cam type brakes goes pass 90 degrees is the brake lining material has worn and/or the drum has worn past the optium. If the drum has worn then the cam can "flip" and lock up past full application. If the lining is worn then it is possible that the slack adjuster can be adjusted but not by turning the link on the rod. There is a 9/16" drive adjusting screw drive on the adjust that needs to be turned to adjust the brake to the correct adjustment. If you are not familar with the process get a good truck mechanic to look at your brakes and make a determination of the the condition of the brakes. Then if the lining is thick enough and the drums have not been worn past the max limit then have him adjust the brakes. OF NOTE!! Be sure the hub bearings are adjusted correctly. If they are out of adjustment and loose the brakes do not adjust correctly and will cause a bad ajustment to occur. Also, ALWAYS ajust the brakes when the weight is off the tires and after checking the hub bearing adjustment. It makes for a more accurate adjustment.
