Maybe no one told you, since you seem to be from the LD class, but corporations are in the business of making money. If the business can get it done cheaper without "Union" labor, in a different country, go for it!
Too bad you can't deal with competition, since thats what the US was founded on.

I don't agree with either one of you.

However some of the problems related to cheaper labor overseas is not related to the people who do the work overseas. Overtime is considered a normal day's work and receives a normal day's pay if you don't like it there is 20 more fresh employees waiting to fill your spot.

A lot of the problem is that the labor is just that labor. The American companies that go overseas for cheaper labor don't care if you're pregnant and working with chemicals. They could care less if they dumped TCE or any other environmental hazard in the drinking water. Even of the town where they employ their workers. An eight hour day is nonexistent. safety is not a consideration nor is pollution. Big brother can be paid off for a mere pittance to look the other way. Children just mean you get more bang for your buck. If you can employ the whole family you can count on them to police one another so you won't fire all of them for the conduct of one individual.

Truck driving as well as many other safety-related jobs is a 12 to 14 our straight shift and who cares if you do drugs drink alcohol or don't take rest stops. For that matter since safety inspections are not required. We will fix it when it breaks or recover it as stolen when the driver gets in an accident and leaves the scene. Thereby avoiding all liability and if I have insurance coverage claim all the damage was related to the theft. Thereby covering all those repairs.

There's more to any issue than I or anyone else can cover in this forum.

I do know that the way I was raised was that hatred as well as unconscionable use and abuse of a fellow human is wrong.

Sorry, just couldn't sit quietly

Sincerely,
Ken

Ken,
I concur with you totally.
However, here in the US, driving a truck is no great shakes either. I drove for 27 years as an owner operator and as a company driver. I don't know of any driver that doesn't lie on his log books. This isn't just because of the need to make 'more' money, but to make a living wage. I wonder how many times I put in seven to ten hours loading or unloading and then drove eight or ten more hours to get unloaded or loaded again. If you kept a legal log, the company would get rid of you for low productivity, although the reason given would be something else.
It just goes to show, there is forced labor even here.
I do agree with you that there is no reason to allow racism or isolationist attitudes to prevail. Ours is a global economy and whether we like it or not, that's the way it's going to stay.
The way to stop the human rights abuse by global corporations is to stop utilizing their products. I know, before anyone says it, that is a simplistic attitude, but in the long run, that's what it's going to take.

The so called "human Rights abuses" are only the standard of living that our grandparents has 75 years ago.

They end when the locals get enough $$$ that they can get their local opressor goverment off their backs.

Mexico is a great example , lots of hard working nice folks , but in 75 years only ONE election has even come close ( not too close) to being honest.
So they live in poverty , as usual, caused by their ruling elite.

If we sent guns to mexico , most of Africa, and the mid Eastern dictatorshops ,

and a copy of Our Constitution it would have far better long term results than a few more Billions for the dicktators Swiss bank account.
