I am convertng a 79 RTSII. This is my project for my spare time. I have learned that this is a very tough bus yet is has a sleek profile. What would you like to know about this bus?? BASICS are ceiling height 6'8", mine has the 8v71N engine; the window are large and fairly easy to change out; storage compartment space can be built under the floor in at least 1 compartment. Outside panels are made of fiberglas and are modular for ease of removal and attachment, for created storage compartments, there are modular doorsand panels to add, There are wheel wells to build around but are not much of a problem, it is a good solid bus if you are into Transits.
There are a lot of comments on the RTS at GoWheels.com both in the old and new archives and inthe new billboard. You can more easily contact me at gowheels.com if you want to chat on.-CD

Re: RTS Wulf P. Ward 10-29-99
Chicago uses AM Generals and it is the worst bus ever built. They use them for about 5 years or so and then they just sit. Since they have to keep them for 15 years. When they come up for sale they have less then 200,000 miles on the bus, but they are sold for junk only. Milwaukee WI still is running 20 year old RTS buses. They will last for ever, specially the older ones, because up to 1979 they were mostly stainless steel. The RTS is the way to go. I have one converted for myself, I love it. I have sold 140 of them in the last 7 years. I have 3 79's left starting at $ 6,500.00. I also have one 79 conversion shell with all the hard work done. This bus has a rebuilt motor and new tires and is in perfect mechanical condition. I am asking $ 12,500.00 for that bus. E-mail or cal me at 773-533-1061. I am convertng a 79 RTSII.
