Confusion at MAK Publishing
After finding MAK Publishing's photo ad page, I clicked on the link (http://www.busconversions.com/photoads/padterms.html) to order an ad to sell my bus.
The ad clearly states the terms and cost of placing a photo ad as $60 for three months and three months for free if you don't sell your bus in the first three months and they stated it much clearer than I just did. It also states that they will post the ad as soon as they receive it. On 6/21/99 I filled out the form, gave them my credit card number, and emailed the photo to them in JPG format as per the instructions. I leave town and return eight days later to find my ad wasn't where it was supposed to be, in fact it wasn't anywhere, it hadn't been posted. I checked my credit card and found that sure enough they had billed me, but not $60, the bill was $219. I may be a little slow sometimes but this was enough to peak even my curiosity. I phoned MAK Publishing and spoke with Dennis in advertising. He didn't know anything about the online ads and was convinced I was talking about placing an ad in the magazine. Finally out of utter frustration with me, he decided to hand the ball to Riki. After a short bout of phone tag Riki and I connected. Riki told me that she didn't know about the online ads but was sure they couldn't post one because their webmaster had gone to part time and ……... well you get the picture. She thought it would be a great idea if I just placed the ad in the magazine, after all it was only $219. I assured her I didn't want an ad in the magazine, I wanted an online ad or a refund. She graciously agreed to credit my account $219 sometime that day. Meanwhile I see ads on the page where my ad should be and can't help but wonder how they got there. What kind of computer sorcery placed those ads there and refuses to accept mine; oh well, just thought someone should know about the confusion at MAK Publishing and the mysterious photo ads.
By the way, I've still got that MC8 shell for sale.
