Cat 3208 Marine Engine doesn't hand rotate 360 degrees Bob 11-21-08
I have twin Cats in a 56'boat. I have pulled the batteries and have ordered a new sea water pump for the stbd engine. In the meantime, to keep the cylinders lubricated I have been pumping diesel fuel via the hand primer pump. Later I found out that the engine can be hand turned by using a large rachet wrench and when I tried to turn the stbd engine, it turn ok 3/4 of the way but then suddenly stopped... and will not turn the remaining 1/4. I suspect the fuel has accumulated into one or two of the cylinders causing a liquid lock during compression. How can I remove the fuel from the cylinder(s) without taking the heads off? Is it possible to just remove the valve covers and depress the intake and exhaust valves on the suspected cylinder(s) and by hand turning the engine, pump the fuel out the exhaust while the valve is open?
Has anyone experienced the same problem? Would appreciate any ideas and feedback. Thank you.

You need to find what cylinder lock on, = following the firing order & counting 90 degree for each cylinder with the timing mark from # 1 turn backward 1/2 -3/4 turn, then use a yard blower(like the one use to blow grass clipping out of sidewall & driveway) & blow trough the intake to make a draft & carry enough liquid out of the cylinder& allow to crank over.
