Battery with reverse charge by DAVID CLEMENS

I just bought a new deep cycle battery. I discovered that the negative terminal seems to be the the positive and vis versa. The RV supply place, where I bought the battery said I could cure this problem by completely discharging the battery,reconnecting it to my trailer and leave all lights on over night and completely discharge it and then recharge again in the right polarity. Our trailer come with one battery. Why would I need 2 batteries in parallel?
