Looking for Gilligs The Buskid 0-0-00
If anyone could help me with finding a Gillig in good condition for a reasonable price, I would really appreciate it. A 2-axled 1960s-1970s model is preferred with diesel power (either rear mounted or under floor), automatic transmission is favored as well, but manual is OK. I'm not planning on using it for conversion purposes, so a fresh out of service one would be best. Thanks a lot, hope to hear from you soon.

Hey Buskid

I got a few Gilligs for sale, and a lot of Gillig parts.
My stuff ranges from a rough and tough 69 Gillig with a 220 mid to a classy chassis 74 pusher and an Allison 4 spd auto. And another pusher. My personal bus is a 1970 Gillig, 1160 CAT with a 5 speed and it's been a wonderful old horse, tough as nails.

I'm an honest guy and am NOT a dealer, just a bus nut and school teacher here in Fresno, CA, who happens to love Gilligs. Crowns are cool too, but not for the kind of work I do (Transportaio0n of provisions/supplies into rough parts of Mexico and Central America.) Mids don't have the kind of ground clearance I like for serious off roading, although I must admit I've drug two oil pans so far BOTH on rear engine buses (my own CAT pusher, and a Cummins 180 pusher, which SHATTERED because of Cummins wise decision to save 9 pounds on a 10 ton vehicle by going to a brittle aluminum oil pan.

CAT is smart enough at least on SOME of their engines to put a good old bendable, weldable steel pan.

If you're interested, e-mail me. If I can help, I surely will

Seeya

Re: Looking for Gilligs -- CAT Engines The Buskid 0-0-00
Anybody else have any comments about the Gillig pushers which use CAT 1160s in them? How about CAT 3208s? Just curious . . .
Re: Looking for Gilligs -- CAT Engines Tom 10-29-00
The 1160 cat is the forunner the 3208, its the same size. the 3208 is an upgrade. and though a little under powered, they are bullit proof.

3208s? Just curious . . .
