8.2l Detroit Desiel Lee Robertson 4-16-04
We just purchased a 1984 blue bird bus with a 8.2L Detroit and and automatic Allison trans. (136K miles) this bus has been sitting up for the last two years.
It idels great, shifts great. NOW the problem! After we get it up over 55 we are leaking fuel out of a weep tube that is connected to a round valve loacted on the intake under the air cleaner. Can anyone please tell me what this is and how I can fix it?
Also does anyone know where I can get a manual for this motor. I want to do the bulk of the repairs myself.

Thank for your hepl in advance
Lee

The fuel pump is leaking,it is located under the intake. You can order manuals from interstate deisel out of minneapolis

Another place to get manuals is ebay. seach under 8.2L. Or you might try your friendly Detroit Diesel Dealer.

Do you have any idea of your engine speed when it starts to leak?
Will it leak if you run the engine fast in a lower gear?
What is the fuel pressure?
Are all the fittings around the fuel pump and the distribution manifold tight?
But not too tight.........

Maybe the return line is plugged up.
Maybe a loose fitting.
Maybe the hole in the dodad that controls the fuel pressure is too small or plugged up......this is located at the beginning of the fuel return line.

Don't screw around with the fuel control/governor until you are sure you know what you are doing. Don't disconnect the shutdown soleniod until you know what you are doing.

These engines love clean oil.

would appreciate the help.

thanks,

How in the hell is a street sweeper considered an RV? try Napa for the waterpump.
