Selling a7.3 Navistar?/engine swap info. Help? hobackjo 4-15-04
This is an extention to the "right bus wrong engine" question.
I have found a good bus with the floor plan I need but don't want the engine.

I have the shop and tools to do an engine swap and am wanting to know more about what I could expect to get out of a clean 7.3 navistar with service records @150,000 mi. and likelyhood or any tips on finding a DT-466....basically so I know what I'm in for if I were to get the bus at the right price.

thanks

Figure on $500-1000 for a 7.3 and the transmission to go with it--basically a core charge.

You will need a transmisison to go with the DT466.

Figure on $6-18K for a used DT446 and the transmission to go with it.

Prices you pay are going to be retail and the prices you will be paid will be wholesale.

If the bus is truly what you want, make sure you get it for a really good price. You will need to determine if the finished product after swapping will be worth your time and money after it is all said and done. The engine/transmisison swap is not going to make the vehicle appreciate much in value. It will appreciate about as much as the wholesale cost of the power package.

Good luck.

Mark O.
