Slide outs vern 1-1-04
I have a Wayne Lifestar bus
and want to convert it to a motorhome. I am planning
to put two (2) slide-outs in.
Any "do's or don'ts"???
Re: slide outs Brent DeGreene 1-3-04
Stay away from slideouts unless you're absolutely committed to them. They compromise the torsional rigidity of the structure, add weight, and promote water intrusion. Furthermore, it will be very time consuming to do all the fabrication and welding, as well as designing the mechanical and hydraulic slide mechanisms.

The only ones I would personally own are the Prevosts with lock pins and inflatable seals. They add over $100,000 to the price of a bus.
The HWH system for the Prevost is a marvel in operation but is very complex.

From someone who has dealt with slide out rooms way too many times.

Don't be a chicken! I think that slideouts are a lovely idea! Comprimising the structural integrity of the bus??? Not to worry, buses are built super heavy duty when compared to standard rv's. You can remove several of the beams from the walls and still have an extremely sound rig.

I like fabricating, but i think it is going to be a lot of work if you decide on slidouts. If you have the time and no-how,go for it !
