A couple of points for your battery conversion.
1. If you are going to run a long distance you should use heavy gage cable because cable length will increase resistance but heavier gage cable will fix that.
2. if you use 6 volt batteries to make 12 volts you must wire them in series. Connect the negative of one battery to the positive of the other and use the unused positive and negative terminals as your 12volt = and -
3. Why would you use 6 volt batteries? If you are just trying to get more battery power this is the wrong approch. To get more battery you can connect as many 12 volt batteries as you want and still have 12 volts. You just connect them in parallel. To do this you just connect all positive terminals together and all negative terminals togrther, then connect up to any positive and any negative.
