Ih engines buster 10-31-03
My 6.6 ford is getting tired. if i switch to ih in my next bus i want a 466 dt, but if that isn't available are the other engines as good? how do they rate power wise?
Re: ih engines Mark O. 11-6-03
In my opinion, the only real choice in engines in school buses is the DT466. It has been on the road longer than any other engine in school buses, it has been proven to be a very low cost engine, it has adequate HP and torque, and because it has been out there so long used ones are easy to find at relatively low cost.

Any other IHC diesel is going to be either short on HP and torque or they were bad engines when they were new and they haven't gotten better with age.

Cummins 'B'-series engines are a good second choice but they are in newer more expensive buses.

Good luck.

Mark O.
