Re: Looking for Short Bus - Am I dreaming? by Mark O.
Post New Message Your dreaming could become a reality but it is very unlikely your dream will come with a stick shift.

For more than 20 years now an automatic has been the standard transmission in most states. Here in WA, you actually pay extra if you want a stick shift. I have only seen one new bus in the last ten years that came from the factory with a stick shift.

Can you swap out an automatic for a stick shift? Yes you can.

Is it a good idea? Only you can know for sure. However, since your communications center will be driven by many different people, an automatic will be easier to drive and be more driver friendly for more drivers than a stick shift.

There is no reason not to expect to find your dream in the low buck neighborhood. Used school buses are available all over the country for very low prices. E-bay has them all the time selling for less than $1K.

The most common school bus on the road is a 35' conventional with an IHC chassis. Finding a shorty may be the hardest part of your search.

Good luck.

Mark O.
