Aluminum body school bus Bill Gardner 1-7-03
Does anyone know when they stopped putting aluminum bosies on school buses? My frined has a 1948 Chevy Superior body, and it's aluminum. Is this something only Superior did, and if not did all manufacturers do it, and if so for how long? 50's? 60's? ANY info would be a big help!
Thanks in advance!

Crown Coach Corporation used aluminum bodies on their Supercoaches from 1949 until 1991 when they went out of business.

Superior was quite possibly using aluminum body construction as early as 1936, although they really pushed their steel school bus bodies during that time period.

Not sure about other manufacturers.

BLue Bird has always used steel for their bus bodies. In 1997 they changed the small bus (Micro Bird) to aluminum.
