Bus driver wages differ greatly depending upon the location around the country.

Generally speaking, school bus wages start anywhere from $7.00 per hour to more than $15.00. Transit driver wages tend to be a little higher. Motorcoach driver wages average about $10.00 per hour.

The actual take home wage differs greatly as well. Some operations have a minimum number of hours per day. Others pay only for the actual hours worked. For instance, one local district pays almost $14.00 per hour but pays only for actual driving time--about 2.5 hours per day with two shifts. The district next door pays $11.00 per hour but pays a minimum of two hours per shift.

Public employers usually also pay very generous benefit packages in addition to the pay.

Good luck and have fun.

I've seen a lot of ads around town (Anchorage,Alaska) for beginning school bus drivers starting at $11.60 an hour. That seemed kind of low for the level of responsibility involved. Don't know about anywhere else

Another thing you could consider is checking out your local "retirement community" some of the bigger ones hire full time drivers.
