A Bus Driver's Day ( Poem) IHCgirl 10-19-02
A Bus Driver’s Day

We awake so very early each day,
To allow us to locate our bus within the fleet of birds,
And to make sure it’s still safe for our dear children.
Although it may be tricky sometimes,
We always try and do our best,
To get kids safely and on time to school,
Which they will always remember us for,
Being the mean person who dropped them off at school,
And left them there for hours on end.
Sooner or later the kids realize us drivers,
Are really only doing our jobs and not trying to be mean.

Our hearts break to hear 1 of our kindergarten kids crying.
We always try to comfort them,
By yelling at the person who upset them,
Or by offering a hug to make them feel better.
When we arrive to their stop,
We take a quick moment to tell mommy what happened,
As keeping parents informed accordingly,
Is also our job.

Our days are never the same as another was.
We never know when 1 of our elementary kids will get upset and start crying,
If our older kids will get along, or if they will curse each other the whole ride,
Or who will be throwing things on or out of the bus.
Each of our runs,
Always have the 1 or 2 kids who don’t know the meaning of “sit down”,
And many don’t know how to talk properly.
These are our little friends who need some reminders and glares,
To help keep them in line,
Which with any luck,
Won’t be an issue by the end of our year together.

We can always tell when it’s the day before a vacation,
As the extreme happiness and loudness makes that quite clear.
This is not the only day that is made clear to us though,
As those wonderful report cards always seem to quiet the older kids down,
As the day they dread has arrived.

Even though we have what seem to be really long, aggravating days sometimes,
We are still easy to get along with.
If they respect us and behave properly,
Then we’ll get along with no problem at all.

Let me kno what u guys think!
