Thots on frame shortening? swanny 6-22-02
I am considering for purchase a 1964 (entirely) Bluebird 33' flatnose front engine schoolbus. I want a shorter bus, but this is sweet deal, with all mechanics updated for cheap! is it feasible, wise, and ultimately worth the trouble to chop 6 feet out of the middle?
any thots would be great!

thanks,
swanny

Food for thought from another angle!

you could cut the frame off behind the rear springs and cut the body off back there and build a new back wall so to speak and you will have a shorter bus and all the main stuff to go with it!

Are you out of your mind>? Seriously, why do you think chopping 6 feet off is going to make it as manuverable as a sports car? Not to mention the fact that you wont be able to align it perfectly even with a lazer when your finished. Dont mess with success.

I MYSELF HAVE A DOGnose bus and a flat nose bus and the flat nose bus will run circles around the dog nose when it comes to turning radius!
if you can get this flat nose at a good deal then i think you should go for it and try it out and if it does not suit your needs then sell it and find a shorter bus!

but go for it and see what you think after you have tried it out!

i have shortened a dog nose bus, cut the middle of the body out and brought the back forward, but didn't shortened the frame because i made a fifthwheelhauler out of it! and that in it's self was quite a job, but i have to agree with the last repsonse that to cut the frame you are asking for TROUBLE!

Getting things straight and square with the world would be difficult at best. Also, shortening the frame is going to make the ride get really choppy. It could also make the bus hard to handle when being passed by semi-trucks and side winds.

If the price is right, go ahead and purchase it. You may find it handles corners better than you thought it would. If it is still too long, trade it in on a shorter bus.
