Where is the best place (or way) to find someone to help me with an engine swap? I have a 1948 that needs a newer engine so I need some one to console with about my choices and then someone with the space and tools to actually do the job! Should I put an ad in the newspaper or call resto shops? Are there any web sites that hold directories for this type of thing? <grumble> Am I goning to have to do this alone....?

you got a project on your hands..Find an old retired mechanic..nursing home..help him escape for a few months. Luckly the old ones have a lot of options and none of the new..stuff that make conversions tough.
You will probably not improve too much on the original...fix the engine or put in a high speed one..and the tranny won't handle it, ..same with the brakes and front end...so don't expect to make a rocket ship out of your older bus.
Instead..rebuild the one you got..and plan on going classicaly slow.
First; 1948; what make?
Honestly, I would only rebuild the old engine if I were going to stay close to larger cities where parts are available. If You're planning on going anywhere out of the way, then definetly; newer motor.
Don't know where you are located, but find a local car club. Ask them all your questions. Any decent gearhead will be glad to help.
