We are retiring in May and after we sell most of our worldly goods, we are "hitting the road". Right now we are doing research and looking for the most economical but comfortable way to travel long distances. Right now we are seriously considering a camper van. We will; do some camping, pull over and sleep in the van and ocassionally get a room. Meals will be simple with eating out occasionally. What camper vans get the best MPG yet still offer a decent bed? Also interested in what others think are the "must" places we should visit.
"Must" places to visit — that's all going to depend on what you are interested in. We like the following National Parks: Yellowstone, The Grand Tetons, Glacier, Waterton Lakes (Canada), Jasper (Canada), Banff (Canada), Rocky Mountain, Mesa Verde. Ouray is a neat Colorado mountain town that has not yet been overly commercialized, as is nearby Silverton. Pikes Peak is a neat side trip.
We're planning to retire next year and our traveling style will be to travel to an area that we are interested in, stop there for a few days and explore, having at least a little bit of time to get to know a place.
