Touring South Africans by Dave Tubb
Post New Message I am a South African who is looking at doing a really big roadtrip in the States from February 2004 for about 5 months. We are basically looking at traversing the outside square of the States and are looking for any info which might help us on our trip.
We are particularly concerned about the costs involved (the SA rand isnt the strongest currency in the world)and are looking at eating simply, (pasta and veggies) staying in simple RV parks (We dont need games rooms, internet etc.)but seeing the best of your beautiful country. We are also looking at buying a pre owned class C vehicle which we will then sell upon completion of the trip. We are taking a loan out in SA and will sell the vehicle upon completion of the trip and pay out the remainder outstanding on the loan. We are hoping that if we purchase a vehicle for $18 000 we will be able to sell it for about $14 000 - $15 000 at the end of the trip( therefore each having to pay $1000 to cover the shortfall on the loan)
We have budgeted about $8000 each (for the whole trip) and are wondering whether the holiday of our dreams is possible.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Dave
