Hello All, Newbe guy here hopeing to fulltime one day soon, would like to hear some info on diesel class c'ss, don't seem to see alot of them mostly the triton v10's, do thay make many diesel class c, and why or what would be the reason, am I just not takeing notice of them? any info or thoughts appreciated.
Most class c's on ford, chevy, chassis come standard from the factory with gas, the coach manufacturer has to special order diesel power which adds $6,000. to $8,000. to the cost of the MH. I have a Chinook with the 7.3L ford diesel, love it, but it added $8,000. more to the overall price.
Most people DO NOT keep their Motorhomes long enough, nor put enough miles on them to justify the additonal original expense. However the diesel is the way to go if you are to be pulling something behind.
I own an older Class C diesel and I love it and it gets around 11 when I pull a boat, bit better without. I burn Veggie oil in it during the times of use. Winter however I just burn straight diesel or blend it.
Diesel class C is the way to go. Try looking at Gulfstream Enduras with a Duramax engine and Allison tranny on a Kodiak chassis. It's nice to have the torque in the mountains and it's rated at 14 mpg.
Thanks for the info. I am convinced diesel is the only way to go and assume you can get more miles out of the engine, but is the fuel mileage any better? and think the 8 grand is well worth it. I will be fulltimer and won't be able to afford a class A but still want a diesel and I like the class C style, maybe cheaper shop time/easier then class A to maintain? hope it's enough MH for a single fulltimer.
