1-ton sunrader rear axle thilo hackenberg 6-10-08
Need to replace rear axle on an 83 17' sunrader. how badly do i need a "true-1-ton" 6-lug axle? wouldn't a 5-lug be fine for a 17'? any experience sharing appreciated...

does someone have current advice on where to get either one in NY or surrounding states?

thx, thilo

Does your Sunrader have a side or a rear (meaning in the back wall) door. If it is a 17' it will have a rear door. Those are smaller in width and weight and usually are not seen as needing the axle upgrade. I don't think they built any 17'ers after 1979, but you never know about Sunraders, anything can and did happen.

However, if it is a rear dinette type with a side door it is an 18' coach and they are usually considered to need the upgrade. I have a friend in MI with a complete axle setup, if you are interested drop me a line and I will hook you up with him.
